About this Session
Join us for a riveting 50-minute session exploring the transformative potential of personalized, mastery based learning, illustrated through the real-world success of The Greater Dayton School (GDS) in Dayton, Ohio. This session highlights educational techniques and systemic approaches to implement an effective, sustainable, and scalable self-paced, blended, mastery-based learning experience.
Cultivating self-regulated learners is at the heart of our story and is key to driving long-term equity. In this talk we will describe how a school serving exclusively students from marginalized communities was able to use self-paced, blended learning to achieve 94% and 70% recovery of learning loss in both reading and math at an average pace of x1.7 in just one academic year.
Data is paramount to the success of this model, and we will show you what types of data teachers need to use blended learning in a powerful and manageable way, daily. We know data is not enough, and to truly scale self-paced learning teachers need systems that will serve every child individually in order to help them orchestrate learning in their classrooms sustainably. We must move from the LMS (Learning Management System) to the PLS (Personalized Learning System) - more in our workshop!
